Islip Animal Shelter Closed due to weather.

January 27, 2015 - Islip, NY - Due to the severe inclement weather, the Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center will be closed today. Please confirm that we have re-opened before coming down on Wednesday. Call (631) 224-5660.

If you have found a stray dog, please bring it to one of the two emergency vet hospitals we work with. They will be able to scan the dog for a micro-chip and hopefully contact its owners. If the dog does not have a micro-chip, they will hold the dogs for us until we are able to pick them up.

If you have lost your pet, please also contact these hospitals to see if they are there waiting for you. If they are not, please call the shelter at (631) 224-5660 first thing tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.

The hospitals we work with are:
Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists
3250 Veterans' Memorial Highway
Bohemia, NY 11716
(631) 285-7780

During this time we ask that all pet owners please bring your pets inside. Be sure all animals are kept warm, have adequate shelter, food, and water. Shovel paths for them to walk outside. While using salt to melt the ice, opt for the pet friendly versions to ensure pet safety. (Regular salt is harsh on paws and mouths.) If you have dogs with short coats, you may opt to put them in a sweater or coat and booties while walking them outdoors.
