Armed Robbers Steal Money and Cigarettes from Gas Station
The Nassau County Police Department is currently investigating a gas station robbery which occurred late Saturday night. The incident took place a little before 10 p.m. in South Hempstead.
Detectives say two black males are responsible for the BP gas station robbery on 470 Grand Avenue. Upon entering the store, the suspect with the handgun walked behind the counter and pointed his weapon at the 29-year-old clerk. After taking money and two cartons of Newport cigarettes, the two assailants ran off in an unknown direction.
The gas station clerk described the man who pointed the gun at him as being 5’6 and 150 pounds. He wore a blue hoodie, black pants, a black mask, red sneakers, and red gloves. The other subject, who was also described as 5’6 and 150 pounds, wore a black hoodie, a green do-rag, black mask, black, gloves, and black pants. His face was covered with a white t-shirt.
A similar incident which also took place in Hempstead occurred 12 days prior to this one on January 14th at around 5:15 p.m.
That evening detectives say two black men in masks entered a Shamrock Gas Station on 404 Clinton Street and demanded money from a 25-year-old manager. Just like Saturday night's robbery, one of the suspects was armed with a firearm.
After getting what they came for, the two men ran off travelling southbound on Clinton Street. The Shamrock Gas Station manager said one of the suspects was described as 6’ tall and wore dark clothing. He was not able to describe the other assailant to the NCPD though.
It is unknown whether these two particular crimes are related. Nassau County Detectives request anyone with information on either Robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All calls remain anonymous.
