Lakeview Man Arrested Sunday for December Shooting

Written by Joe Randazzo  |  20. January 2014

Nassau County police arrested a Lakeview man over a shooting that occurred on the evening of December 16th. The incident took place outside of a deli on Woodfield Road.

Detectives say Terence Cunningham, 27, and a 32-year-old man, started arguing inside the Middle Store Deli & Grocery. Shots were fired once the two men met outside. Cunningham is said to have shot the victim in the shoulder and chest.

Witnesses say after the shooting Cunningham allegedly stole the victim's belongings. The man survived and was able to make his way inside the store to tell the owner that he had been shot. After an investigation Cunningham was arrested a month later at his Lakeview home on January 19th at 11:24 p.m. He was taken in without incident.

Cunningham is set to be arraigned in the First District Court in Hempstead Monday. He is charged with Assault in the First Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

Last week another man was arrested long after he committed his crime. Abram Owens, 32, of Hempstead, and an unknown accomplice, were accused of orchestrating an April home invasion. During the invasion Owens mistakenly shot a 22-year-old woman in the house

Nassau County Police caught Owens months later after he turned himself in through the Crime Stoppers Hotline.

“Typically, it works where a citizen saw the Crime Stoppers flyer and gives us a tip. For the person just to see the flyer itself and turn himself in, it is more unusual,” said Nassau County Police Inspector Kenneth Lack

Owens is charged with Robbery in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree, two counts of Burglary in the First Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Violation of Probation, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree. Owens was arraigned in the First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.

Owens’ accomplice for the home invasion is still at large.
