Brentwood, NY - January 17, 2014 - Today members of the Brentwood Fire Department responded to a fire at 7 Macadam Street in Bay Shore, which was located in the confines of an auto salvage yard. The fire was reported at 3:23 PM and was placed under control two hours later. In total, five trailers caught fire as well as a heavy auto crusher.

The contents of the trailers, which included auto parts such as steering wheel columns and airbags resulted in a heavy fire condition at the scene. Response to the incident consisted of roughly 40 firefighters from the Brentwood Fire Department.  The East Brentwood Fire Department and the Bay Shore Fire Department provided coverage in the Brentwood district as the fire was active.

“This was a very active fire scene and the combustibles on site made for some fireworks.  Our members did a great job in bringing this under control,” said Brentwood Fire Chief Javier Valentin.

In total, one firefighter suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
