Man Arrested for DWAI By Drugs After Crashing into Vehicle and Patrol Car Stopped at Red Light

First Precinct Police report the arrest of a Freeport man for Driving While Ability Impaired, Drugs on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 9:07 pm in East Meadow.

Both the Police Officer and the 53 year old female driver of the Toyota were transported to a local nearby hospital and treated for neck and back pain.

East Meadow, NY - January 18, 2017 - First Precinct Police report the arrest of a Freeport man for Driving While Ability Impaired, Drugs on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 9:07 pm in East Meadow.

According to police, the defendant Patrick Ryan Kelly, 31, of Freeport, was observed operating a 1988 Honda at a high rate of speed east on Hempstead Turnpike at which time it struck the rear of a 2007 Toyota stopped at a red traffic signal light on Hempstead Turnpike / Franklin Avenue causing it to then strike the rear of a First Precinct Patrol Car that was escorting a Nassau County Police Ambulance.

Both the Police Officer and the 53 year old female driver of the Toyota were transported to a local nearby hospital and treated for neck and back pain. The defendant was placed into police custody and transported. He was admitted and is being treated for a laceration to his head along with neck and back pain. The investigation is ongoing.

Patrick Ryan Kelly is charged with 1192.4 Driving While Ability Impaired, Drugs. He will be arraigned when practical.
