Driver of Taxi Arrested for Fleeing Police Following Pursuit in Medford

Suffolk County Police today arrested the driver of a taxi for fleeing police after an attempted traffic stop in Medford.

The driver was arrested and charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

Medford, NY - January 17, 2017 - Suffolk County Police today arrested the driver of a taxi for fleeing police after an attempted traffic stop in Medford.

A Sixth Precinct police officer observed a man, who was operating a taxi off-duty, driving recklessly on eastbound Granny Road near Kettles Lane at 1:10 p.m. and attempted to pull over the driver. The man fled in the 2005 Plymouth Voyager, owned by RIB Transportation, and officers initiated a pursuit. Officers pursued the man at a low speed and used stop sticks, once on Mill Road in Medford and again on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley. The suspect continued to drive the vehicle on rims to his home on Revilo Avenue in Shirley. 

The man was arrested and charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
