Hauppauge, NY - January 17, 2014 - Legislator John M. Kennedy Jr., Minority Leader of the Suffolk County Legislature spoke before the Hauppauge Industrial Association (hereinafter referred to as “HIA”) at their breakfast on Tuesday morning.

Legislator Kennedy addressed the ongoing Sewer Project in Sewer District 18. This project when completed will connect virtually the entire Industrial Park with full sewer access while connecting an additional 250 properties with the sewer system. In addition future phases of the sewer project will be advertised later in the year and will bring more jobs to Suffolk County.

Suffolk Community College is also collaborating with local businesses, in partnership with HIA members to train students for direct placement within member organizations. Suffolk Community College has also committed itself to educating returning veterans while Legislator Kennedy urged HIA members to consider hiring veterans as they are highly trained professionals who have proven their skills in service to our nation.

Finally, Minority Leader Kennedy spoke about the traffic concerns in the county that are pertinent to business owners in the area. The Legislator has requested that the excess money remaining in Public Works be allocated to Smithtown Planning in order to coordinate traffic signals in the Industrial Park. “Efficient traffic movement within the park would be a great benefit to local businesses,” said Legislator Kennedy.

“It was my pleasure to speak before the HIA this morning and I look forward to continuing to work with local businesses, through programs such as my Business Retention and Expansion Partnership Initiative (BREPI) to help my constituents and increase efficiency in the district. Government always has to work hand in hand with business to accomplish the goals of a community and so it is no different in Suffolk County,” said Legislator Kennedy.
