Two Killed in Three Car Collission Caused by Drugged Driver

Lynbrook, NY - January 13th, 2015 - The Homicide Squad is investigating a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred on Monday, January 12, 2015 in Lynbrook at 8:13 pm.

According to detectives, the defendant John A. Aniano, 25, of D Roxy Place was operating his 2004 Mercedes Benz west on Sunrise Highway at a high rate of speed when he struck a 2005 Toyota in the rear driven by John Jones, 54 of Lynbrook and his front  passenger Sharon Rene Long, 53 of Lynbrook. The 2005 Toyota was redirected to the east bound lanes when it then struck a 2007 Toyota on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The defendant’s vehicle continued west and eventually came to rest in the vicinity east of Atlantic Avenue.

The passenger of the 2005 Toyota  was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Lynbrook Fire Department Medical Technician. The driver of the 2005 Toyota was transported to the South Nassau Communities Hospital by ambulance and was pronounced deceased by a hospital staff physician. The defendant John A. Aniano was transported by ambulance and is being treated for leg injuries. He was also observed to be under the influence of drugs. Two prescription bottles were recovered in the defendant’s auto. The 67 year old male driver of the 2007 Toyota was transported to a local hospital and treated for non - life threatening injuries.

The defendant’s vehicle and the deceased vehicle were impounded for brake and safety inspections. The 2007 Toyota was released at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

John A. Aniano is charged with two counts Manslaughter 2nd Degree, two counts Vehicular Manslaughter 2nd Degree, DWAI  Combined Influence. He will be arraigned as soon as medically practical.
