"Winter Storm Warning" ...Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM EST this evening... * locations...Suffolk County. * Hazard types...heavy snow...strong winds...and blowing and drifting snow. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches. * Winds...northeast 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. * Temperatures...in the lower 30s. * Visibilities...one quarter mile or less at times. * Timing...snow will develop before daybreak...and may be mixed with rain at the very onset. The heaviest snow will fall from the morning commute into early this afternoon. * Impacts...the combination of strong winds and heavy wet snow will bring down tree limbs and power lines. Hazardous travel conditions are expected due to greatly reduced visibilities and significant snow accumulations. Near blizzard conditions are expected...especially out on The Forks and on Fishers Island. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Majority of roads remain passable. There is no significant threat to life and any impact on property is minimal. Precautionary/preparedness actions... Man Cut with Box Cutter at Central Islip Bar and Restaurant

Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for slashing a man at a Central Islip bar and restaurant early this morning.

Central Islip, NY - January 11th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for slashing a man at a Central Islip bar and restaurant early this morning.
 
During an altercation between two groups of men, at Mi Encanto, located at 65 Carleton Ave., Wilson Martinez, slashed Jose Rivera with a box cutter at approximately 12:30 a.m. Rivera, 29, of Deerfield Beach, Florida, suffered injuries on his torso from his shoulder to his waist. He was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, with non-life threatening injuries.
 
Martinez, 24, of 9 Franklin Ave., Deer Park, left the scene, but was soon arrested by Third Precinct officers. He was charged with Assault First Degree. Martinez was arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
Third Squad detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them at (631) 854-8352.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
