Albertson, NY - January 9, 2017 - On January 8, 2017, at approximately 5:57 PM, a New York State Trooper was on stationary patrol on the Northern State Parkway eastbound at exit 25, when the License Plate Reader in his marked patrol vehicle hit on a stolen vehicle, a 2010 Honda. The vehicle was reported stolen out of the Village of Hempstead on January 6th

The Trooper immediately started to follow the vehicle eastbound and he notified dispatch and requested back-up. The vehicle then exited the Northern State Parkway onto southbound Shelter Rock Road and then made a left onto eastbound IU Willets Road.  The Trooper was waiting for back up patrols to conduct a felony traffic stop when he indicated on the radio to dispatch quote, "I think he spotted me."

The suspect vehicle accelerated away, illegally passed several eastbound vehicles, and attempted to make a left turn onto Searingtown Road.  The operator failed to negotiate the left turn which resulted in the Honda leaving the roadway, striking a fence, and overturning in a catch basin with water depths of approximately 10 feet.

Initial rescue attempts were made by the Trooper. The Albertson Fire Department and Nassau County Police Emergency Services Unit were on scene within minutes and performed an underwater rescue. Unfortunately, the three occupants of the vehicle were pronounced deceased at the hospital and have been identified as:

Joan  A. Sanjuan, age 29, of Central Islip, NY,
Adolph Ford, age 46, of Roosevelt, NY,
Donald Farr, age 51, of Westbury, NY.
