Port Jefferson, NY - January 13th, 2014 - Suffolk County Legislator Kara Hahn (D-Setauket) has been selected to serve as Chairwoman of the Legislature’s Environment, Planning and Agricultural [EPA] committee for 2014.  It is a post the second-term Legislator has held since taking office in 2012.

Overseeing the County’s land acquisition programs, water quality improvements initiatives, farmland protection efforts, smart growth planning and numerous other projects, the EPA committee is central to many of the functions of County Government.  As Chairwoman, Legislator Hahn has direct oversight of the Suffolk County’s planning division and matters that deal with our local environment.

Additionally, Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory has selected Legislator Hahn has to serve as Vice-Chair of the Parks & Recreation Committee and as a member of the Economic Development & Energy; Government Operations, Personnel, Housing & Consumer Protection; and Public Safety Committees.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and confidence that the Presiding Officer and my colleagues have given me to continue serving as Chair of the Environment, Planning and Agricultural Committee,” said Legislator Hahn. “In spite of declining revenue for environmental protection, over the course of the last two years, my fellow legislators and I have set a course that is allowing us to be stronger protectors of our drinking water and our bays and waterways.  Our work continues, but the groundwork has been laid.”

Legislative committees are set to begin meeting on Monday, February 3, 2014.  For complete committee memberships, schedules and jurisdictions, please click here.
