2016 Suffolk County crime levels lowest in record history.

Yaphank, NY - January 6, 2017 - Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy D. Sini announced the final 2016 crime statistics, which reflect an all-time low in the history of the police department. 

The unprecedented drop in crime includes a 10.9 percent decrease in violent crime and a 5.2 percent decrease in property crime for a total crime reduction of more than 5 percent. A 2.5 percent decrease in motor vehicle crashes and close to 30 percent decline in fatalities related to motor vehicle accidents were also discussed.   

County Executive Bellone and Commissioner Sini provided 2016 statistics which reflect the increased number of search warrants and record number of guns seized in Suffolk County at the Suffolk County Police Headquarters in Yaphank, NY today.
