Hempstead Man Arrested for Stealing $2,800 from Victims in Lottery Scam

The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for grand larceny that occurred in Westbury on Monday, 06/16/14 and Wednesday, 06/18/14.

Westbury, NY - January 6th, 2015 - The Major Case Bureau reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for grand larceny that occurred in Westbury on Monday, 06/16/14 and Wednesday, 06/18/14.

According to detectives, Jacques Hirsch, 26, of Rhodes Ave., acting in concert with another (not yet arrested), led two female victims from Florida and South Carolina to believe they had won the lottery.  The victims, who wired $1,000 and $1,800 in two separate transactions via MoneyGram to the Walmart located at 1220 Old Country Rd., were led to believe they had to pay fees in order to receive their winnings. The defendant, who is employed as a cashier at the store, retrieved the cash.

Major Case Bureau detectives arrested Hirsch on Monday, 01/05/15 at the Walmart Westbury.  He is being charged with two counts of Grand Larceny 4th Degree, Defraud 1st Degree and will be arraigned on Tuesday, 01/06/15 in First District Court, Hempstead.
