Elderly Man Dies in Melville House Fire

Suffolk County Police Homicide and Arson Squad detectives are investigating a house fire that killed an elderly man in Melville yesterday night.

Melville, NY - January 5th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Homicide and Arson Squad detectives are investigating a house fire that killed an elderly man in Melville last night.

Suffolk County Police responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at a home, located at 2627 New York Ave., at approximately 9:40 p.m.  Firefighters battling the fire found an elderly man on the first floor of the home. The man, who was identified as Domenicko Denito, 92, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but it does not appear to be criminal in nature.
