Man Arrested for Tree Trimming Scam

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Bay Shore man for running a tree trimming scam earlier this month.

Gary Descisciolo, 54, of Bay Shore, was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and six counts of Petit Larceny for incidents that occurred in December.

Suffolk County, NY - December 31, 2016 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a Bay Shore man for running a tree trimming scam earlier this month.  
 
At least six Suffolk County residents were approached earlier this month at their residence by a man who claimed to work for Leon’s Tree Service. The man stated he could provide a tree trimming service in exchange for a cash deposit. The victims gave him money but no work was provided. Following an investigation, police officers arrested Gary Descisciolo. It was determined that Descisciolo was a former employee of Leon’s Tree Service who never returned the company van.
 
Descisciolo, 54, of Bay Shore, was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and six counts of Petit Larceny for incidents that occurred in December.
 
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending. Anyone who feels they may be a victim of the scam is asked to call 631-852-COPS to file a police report.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
