Erratic Street Sweeper Arrested for DWI

Valley Stream, NY - January 2, 2014 - On January 1, 2015 at approximately 7:52pm, State Police communications received multiple reports of an erratic street sweeper traveling eastbound on the Southern State Parkway east of Exit 17.  An SP Valley Stream trooper found the vehicle in the vicinity of Exit 22 and tried to pull it over.  The driver fled and continued eastbound at 35 miles per hour. After a five minute low speed pursuit, the operator stopped the vehicle west of Exit 26 and surrendered. 

Jerry Mitchell, 48 years old, of Blake Ave. in Brooklyn, NY was subsequently taken into custody. He was charged with Aggravated DWI (BAC 0.18% or more) and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree in addition to other traffic charges. He was transported to Nassau County detention where he was to be held for a morning arraignment.
