Pedestrian Killed in Shirley After Being Struck By Two Vehicles on New Year's Eve

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a Shirley man last evening.

William Martin, 59, of Shirley was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on New Year's Eve.

Shirley, NY - January 1, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a Shirley man last evening.

William Martin was walking in the westbound lanes of Montauk Highway, near Bonny Drive in Shirley at approximately 5:20 p.m. when he was struck by a westbound 2007 Dodge Caliber.  Martin was then struck by a westbound 1995 Mercury Sable.

Martin, 59, of Shirley, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the Caliber, Therese Ardolino, 20, of Shirley, remained at the scene of the crash and was not injured. The driver of the Sable, Corrine Pennington, 28, of Mastic, also remained at the scene. Pennington and two of her passengers in her vehicle, a 21-year-old male and a 25-year-old female, were not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
