Two Men Stabbed in Mastic on New Year's Day, Arrest Made

David Schermerhorn, 61, of Mastic, was arrested and is charged with Assault after stabbing two men on New Year's.

Mastic, NY - January 1, 2016 - Suffolk County Police arrested a man after he stabbed two men in Mastic today.

Seventh Precinct patrol officers responded to 56 Mastic Boulevard after a 911 caller reported that that two people were stabbed at that location at approximately 12 noon today.

An investigation by Seventh Squad detectives revealed that an altercation occurred between several people who were assisting one of the residents move out of her apartment. During the altercation, Eric Romaine, 48, of Mastic Beach, was stabbed in the shoulder and Danny Douglas, 27, of Mastic Beach, was stabbed in the back. Their injuries have been determined to be non-life-threatening.

Romaine was transported via Mastic Ambulance Company to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue. Douglas was transported via Shirley Community Ambulance    to Stony Brook University Hospital.

David Schermerhorn, 61, of Mastic, was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree. He is being held at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow at First District Court in Central Islip.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
