Pedestrian Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Taxi

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Patchogue early this morning.

Patchogue, NY - January 1, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a pedestrian in Patchogue early this morning.

Dominick Thorne was driving a taxi northbound on West Avenue when Wilson Sisalima ran across the street from west to east at Hammond Street and was struck by the vehicle at approximately 4:15 a.m. Sisalima, 31, of Patchogue, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment of serious injuries. Thorne, 47, of Patchogue, was not injured.

The taxi, which is owned and operated by Islandwide Taxi, was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information on this incident to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
