The Theodore Roosevelt Nature Center is on a barrier island beach within Jones Beach State Park. The Nature Center’s exhibits are geared towards educating children on the importance of environmental awareness. Children can touch live marine animals, peer through a microscope and study organisms too small for the human eye or play in the kid’s activity area. Outdoor exhibits present opportunities for children to dig up whale bones in the Discovery Bone Cove, take a walk through the butterfly garden, or view a shipwreck. Boardwalk tours allow children to take in and study the plant life and animals that reside in the dune environment.
