This School is amongst the top private schools. We have had our kids there since last year. Their reading and math skills has increased tremendously. The teachers are fabulous and the programs are innovative and allow for each student's individual development. We love the robotics and the Computer programs. Kids start with robotics earlier than the first grade. They also take mandarin and French in prek. The tuition is half what you we paid in another private school in LI.

Bridges Academy, although new, is also built upon a 42 year legacy of successful alumni stemming from a school community of likeminded- both driven and caring - staff, parents, and students. My son, having attended from kindergarten through 8th grade, is now a well prepared honors student in St. Anthony's High School. My daughter, now in 7th grade, has attended since nursery school, continues to learn at an advanced level, which is standard for all classes at Bridges. I was concerned about my children being "lost" in the large classes in the public school. The small class size can't be beat for what the teachers are able to accomplish with each student.

This is one of the top private schools in Long Island. It has in, a short time built an Incredible reputation. It is very much focused on academics, languages, arts and robotics. French and Mandarin are mandatory from prek and K. Classes are kept small and the school has an incredible faculty and many well known academics and executives on its Board.

As a public school teacher I am meticulous about the education my child receives. Even though I am a proponent of public education myself, my "home" public school's standards have gone down too much to warrant sending her there. After combing my 15-mile radius of available school transportation, I only found the Bridges Academy conformed to my standards, and even superseded them in some areas. Stimulating lessons in small groupings set the stage for cognitively engaging classes. An abundance of subjects make her more aware of the world around her; much improving public school's simplified "core subjects". Courses such as "The greenhouse" (yes, they have an actual, full-sized one) and Robotics (and Lego robotics for the younger ones) are unheard of anywhere else. My daughter is presently in the 3rd grade. She uses microscopes in labs, develops air rockets and lives in a building with an extensive computer network, an excellent computer center, and a functioning Smartboard in every room. The Bridges Academy benefited from West Islip having updated their facilities just before they realized they had to close the doors of this wonderful building. Fortunately, the Bridges Academy is now able to take advantage of this modern building. The headmaster, Mr. Frank Fallon has an internationally-driven, multicultural vision. He works closely with the very active parent association. They provide regular enriching cultural programs throughout the school year. Channel 12 News did a fantastic review of one of the latest ones (http://longisland.news12.com/multimedia/students-celebrate-chinese-new-year-1.6920807). Mr. Fallon has also been nationally recognized for his Character Education program that he developed when he was employed as a Grade School Principal in the Bay Shore School District. The Bridges Academy's whole-school homeroom packs a daily dose of "food-for-thought" character education curriculum along with the usual announcements (given by the students themselves to promote public speaking skills at a young age). This year Mr. Fallon has planned yet another trip to Costa Rica to promote multi-cultural awareness and to expose children to their natural world. My 9-yr-old will be visiting a real volcano, zip lining through hundreds of feet of rain forest canopy (hundreds of feet above ground level), and experiencing life in an authentic setting. The area of neurolinguistics has long demonstrated that second languages need to be learned at a young age for them to be acquired on a permanent basis. The Bridges Academy offers 2 languages to every child in the building. My 3rd grader takes French and Mandarin twice a week totaling 60 minutes/week. I do find my daughter takes significantly longer with her homework than her little neighborhood friends who attend our local public school...but if quality and hard work is what you're looking for, and not easy grades, this is the place. I even get a weekly hand-written progress report and a weekly bulletin and e-bulletin of upcoming events to keep me well-aware of EVERYTHING. My daughter is in class with other children whose parents place education as a premium. Socially she is flowering and rubbing shoulders with others who WANT TO BE in school. My daughter comes home happy. I'm happy with the school (and pay under 5 figures a year for this...on Long Island!) It's a win-win.
