The Southampton Historical Museums and Research Center organized just before the turn of the century and has dedicated itself to help citizens of Long Island discover the history of the historic Southampton community. Extensive restorations of four local buildings in the 1950s aided in displaying colonial-era furnishings and tools donated by local families and by the 1990s the property has grown to include twelve other historical structutes. The museums are open year-round and offer changing exhibits and a research center with educational programs for school children and adults.
