Built by Cornelius Vanderbilt “Sonny” Whitney on the family estate, this 18-hole private course has maintained the opulent decor of the original mansion as its clubhouse. The course is demanding, hilly and a challenge to walk, but the William F. Mitchell design is as interesting and well-conditioned as it is complex. Twenty-seven holes are divided among three courses: Blue Grass, Overlook and Woods. They can be played in three 18-hole combinations and vary from 3,452 yards to 3,513 yards with a par value of 36. While the course designs are similar, golfers can expect uneven lies and a few water hazards. Patrons may also enjoy using the 14 indoor and one outdoor tennis courts, two outdoor swimming pools, well-equipped fitness center, driving range, caddy service, beverage cart and lesson opportunities from the on-site golf pro. The clubhouse offers a full bar, snack bar and fine dining in its lovely restaurant.
