When pollution levels are elevated...the New York state department of health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very Young, and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Nassau Univeristy Medical Center is a teaching hospital serving Nassau County and is affiliated with the North Shore LIJ Health System. It started out as the 200 bed Meadowbrook Hospital in 1935 and has now grown to new heights, with 1,200 beds, a state-of-the-art burn center and Level 1 trauma Unit.
