The Long Island Lizards are a Major League Lacrosse (MLL) professional men's field lacrosse team. They are based in Hempstead and initially split their home games between James M. Shuart Stadium and Citibank Park. For serveral years Mitchel Field Complex was used as their home field. The Lizards hold a rivalry between themselves and the Chesapeake Bayhawks, to whom the Lizards lost their inaugural game in 2001. Five out of ten MLL League Championships are held between the two teams, Chesapeake with three and Long Island with two, and in all five instances the other team was the opponent.
