In early 2002 Hofstra University’s 13,000-seat stadium was renamed James M. Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University. The Stadium is home to the Pride men and women’s lacrosse teams and after much renovation has become the largest outdoor sports and entertainment complex on Long Island. The $9 million project included expanding the seating in the stadium from 7,000 sears to 13,000, installing a state-of-the-art scoreboard, building two new entrances plazas, among other additions. The Stadium gets its namesake from Dr. James M. Shuart, president of Hofstra University for 25 years, who helped the school gain international recognition.
