Albert's II Pizza of West Babylon and Bucci's Pizza of East Patchogue received "Honorable Mention" Awards for their hard work and contribution to the Long Island Food Service Industry. The Best Pizza on Long Island Contest, Festival & Bake-Off is an annual event put together by LongIsland.com to promote local pizzerias and at the same time raise funds for a good cause. This year's event was presented by 101.1 Jack FM. A portion of the proceeds goes to Long Island Cares and Island Harvest, non-profit organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry on Long Island, New York. The 4th Annual Best Pizza on Long Island Festival and Bake-Off was held on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Adventureland Amusement Park in Farmingdale, New York. Pizzeria finalists were the top contenders as voted by Long Islanders in the Best Pizza on Long Island Contest. Visitors to the site were able to vote for their favorite pizza by entering votes on the LongIsland.com Web Site. There are over 700 pizzerias across Long Island from Nassau to Suffolk County. Almost every town has one or more pizzerias. Long Islanders take pizza very seriously and everyone has an opinion as to who makes "The Best". The top finalists with the most votes were invited down for the last leg of the competition, the taste test at the Long Island Pizza Festval / Bake-Off. The Long Island Pizza Festival has become an annual event. In addition to the bake-off, the pizza related activies draw a bigger crowd each year. The event serves up everything pizza including pizza sampling, dough tossing demonstrations, mini-pie making for the kids and a pizza eating contest. This year's event featured the American "Cutie Pie" Idol Kids talent show. Children from 4-9 years old sang, danced and entertained the crowd with their performances.
During the Pizza Eating Contest, the crowd cheered on the contestants as they gobbled up pizza. "Skinny Mike" Hoffman, held his title from last year consuming almost an entire pizza in a matter of minutes. Pizza eating contestants received awards and cash prizes. Bonanza Italian Ices was on hand with a delicious assortment of gourmet italian ices to compliment the variety of pizzas offered at the festival. Marsal & Sons provided the Pizza Ovens for the day. Cremosa Foods helped to get the word out about the contest to the pizzerias. They also provided supplies and refrigeration. Adventureland hosted the event and their dedicated staff made sure everything ran smoothly. 101.1 Jack FM was the presenting sponsor of the event. Pizza Ovens, Adventureland Amusement Park, Party Pizzazz, The World Pizza Champions, BBA Photography, Pizza Pup, The Printing Experience and Marriottt Vacation Club.
