Long Island’s Hot Spots for the Local Beer Enthusiast

Written by Eric Anderson  |  06. December 2014

Craft breweries seem to be popping up all over the place, and Long Island is certainly no exception. As we head into winter, local beer drinkers will have an abundance of places to keep warm while drinking a cold brew.

Many local breweries have tastings and other events where you can try a wide selection of their best beers. Or you can just pick up a six pack at the distributor and support these small businesses.

Blue Point Brewery
This is the best-known brewery on Long Island. Nationally famous for their Toasted Lager, Blueberry Ale and Hoptical Illusion, Blue Point’s beers have won awards at the World Beer Cup Awards, the U.S. Beer Tasting Championship and more.

Southampton Publick House
Offering a wide variety of year-round and seasonal brews. Be sure to check out the Burton India Pale Ale, the Keller Pils and the Southampton Double White - which won first place at the Great American International Beer Competition.

Oyster Bay Brewing Co.
This is a relatively new brewery that sprung up just a few years ago and offers signature beers including the Imperial IPA, Wheat Ale and Amber Ale. Be on the lookout in the near future for a Chocolate Stout and Raspberry Wheat.

Long Ireland Beer Company
Check out their tasting room and brewery tour, where you will be able to try some great brews including the Celtic Ale, Breakfast Stout and West Coast IPA.

Montauk Brewing Company
This is a very young brewery - established just two years ago. But their beer has already become well-known to beer drinkers on Long Island. The Driftwood Ale and Summer Ale help this brewery bring a beachy vibe to all of their brews.

Great South Bay Brewery
A wide selection of unique beers can be found here - including the Blood Orange Pale Ale, Robert Moses Pale Ale and the Massive IPA.

Be sure to check out the websites for each of these breweries to see where you can find them and what they offer as far as tastings and other events.
