UPDATE 10 AM Tuesday: Nassau County has finalized its list of polling changes. While Governor Cuomo has singed an executive order allowing voters to go to any polling station to vote in the State and Presidential elections, there is no way to cast a ballot for local races unless it is at the designated polling location. If your regular balloting area is affected by Sandy, you can consult the table below for information on where to vote.

Update 8 PM Monday: Gov. Cuomo announced on Monday that he has signed an executive order allowing New Yorkers to cast their ballots at any polling site in the state.  Votes will be counted for the Presidential election, as well as state elections, but voters who cast a ballot outside of their election district will not be able to vote for local elections.

Original Story: Hurricane Sandy may not have been able to stop the democratic process, but she has made it a bit more difficult for residents in several Long Island towns. In a press release sent at 2:30 this afternoon, Suffolk County Board of Elections Commissioners Wayne T. Rogers and Anita S. Katz announced the completion of their assessment, deeming eight polling locations inoperable due to the storm and forcing the Board of Elections to relocate those polls to new homes for this election cycle.

The Suffolk BOE has been hard at work calling affected residents and mailing notification cards (the last of which should arrive today) so they will be aware of the impending changes ahead of time. Full time staff members will also attend the closed polls on Election Day to inform those not yet cognizant of the alterations where they can go to vote. If you are unsure whether your area has been impacted by the storm, or where to go if it has, you can check the guide below for a complete list of polling changes. Members of Election Districts 5, 117, and 212 will be happy to know that the Belle Terre Village Hall—which was previously thought unusable—is running and ready for the election.
