LONG ISLAND GIRLS AND BOYS WIN HIGH POINT HONORS FOR TENNIS EXCELLENCE IN USTA/EASTERN JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP CIRCUIT (photos and story by Dorothy Kobak)
Opening day at the 2000 U.S. Open in Flushing brought the additional excitement of the Eastern Junior Awards Gala, honoring USTA/Eastern Junior Tennis Championship Circuit Award winners.
Two girls and three boys from Long Island took home high point honors and were guests of the USTA/Eastern at the U.S. Open. Determined by tabulating points earned after six closed sectional championship events in each of the junior singles age divisions, the First Place winners from Long Island are: Elizabeth Kobak, Girls' 12 First Place (500 points); James Wan, Boys' 16 First Place (325 points); Brian Wan, Boys' 18 First Place (265 points). Second Place in Boys' 12 went to Justin Fox (350 points). Lauren Sadaka, with 180 points, tied for Girls' 12 Third Place.
