Bethpage, N.Y... November 4, 2011... A host of dignitaries and elected officials recently joined executive officers of King Kullen to celebrate the grand opening of the new King Kullen supermarket at 23-05 Jericho Turnpike. Designed to reflect the needs of Garden City Park and the surrounding communities by offering expanded food and specialty selections, the store measures an impressive 51,000 square feet.
"We wanted to create a unique shopping experience for customers, so every aspect of the new store has been designed with them in mind," said King Kullen Vice President Thomas Cullen. "With its easy-to-follow layout and dramatic entrance into an expansive produce section, the store features specialty departments throughout, including a sushi station and a Wild by Nature section offering organic, Earth-friendly products. The new store makes shopping easier and more enjoyable. The customer response has been terrific."
With an eye on environmental consciousness and responsibility, engineers at the store implemented many energy-efficient elements in their design, including closed-door cases to conserve energy and the use of LED lighting, which gives off no heat and requires 1/3 less energy than traditional ballast lighting.
The new store also features the NuValTM Nutritional Scoring System, a guide designed to enhance the shopping experience. Store items receive a NuValTM score from 1 to 100; the higher the score, the better the nutrition. Scores are posted on supermarket shelves and signs throughout the store, making it easy for consumers to compare the overall nutrition of the foods they buy at a glance.
"Shoppers can walk down the aisles and receive easy-to-follow guidance that allows them to make informed food choices and improve the nutritional value of their diets," explained Cullen. "It's all part of our commitment to Garden City Park. King Kullen is honored to be here and we will continue to strive to meet the needs and demands of this wonderful community."
Headquartered in Bethpage, New York, King Kullen Grocery Company, Inc. is recognized by the Smithsonian Institution as America's first supermarket. Founded in 1930 by Michael J. Cullen, King Kullen today employs more than 4,000 people and operates 45 stores and four Wild by Nature markets throughout Long Island and Staten Island.
