Buses Replace Trains Between Farmingdale & Ronkonkoma on Saturday, Sept. 27 & Sunday, Sept. 28 for Track & Signal Work

Ronkonkoma, NY - September 24, 2014 - Buses will replace trains this coming weekend on the Ronkonkoma Branch between Ronkonkoma and Farmingdale beginning at 12:45 AM on Saturday, September 27 through 5:30 AM on Sunday, September 28 for Sperry Rail Testing and switch and signal maintenance.

The Sperry Rail Car, a bright yellow vehicle fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment, is designed to detect internal rail defects not readily visible to the eye. Defects that are found will be corrected immediately by a crew of LIRR track maintenance workers. The Sperry Rail Car is used twice a year to inspect approximately 500 miles of LIRR track.

Westbound customers who normally board their train at stations Ronkonkoma through Pinelawn will instead board a bus up to 24 minutes earlier than scheduled train time. At Hicksville, customers will connect with train service to all points west. Bethpage and Farmingdale customers will board their normally scheduled trains.

Eastbound customers traveling east from New York City will ride by train to Hicksville where they will switch to a bus for transportation to stations Pinelawn through Ronkonkoma, Please plan for up to 23 minutes of additional travel time. Bethpage and Farmingdale customers will stay on the train their station.
