LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

At the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, Gladys awaits her furever home.  Gladys has had a rather rough life- this gorgeous, 9 year old blue Corso mix was in pretty bad shape when she came to the shelter.  Poor girl was dehydrated, calluses on her legs and paws, severe dental disease and an infected uterus.  Thankfully, the shelter was able to provide the proper health care for Gladys including emergency surgery to remove the infected uterus, and even dental and oral surgery.  Gladys is now better than ever and is described as a super sweet lady who knows basic commands and gives paw (which I’m told is heart melting).  Gladys has lots of life left in her, so please consider this deserving girl today. For more information about Gladys, head down to the TOH Animal Shelter today or check them out on the web.  Amazing photo credit to Sophie Gamand.

And next door at Last Hope Animal Rescue, you can meet a very happy pooch named Maggie.  Resembling a Smooth Fox Terrier, Maggie came to Last Hope from an overcrowded shelter in Kentucky. She was treated with antibiotics for erlichia, a tickborne disease. Maggie has completely recovered and is thriving.  Maggie likes kids and even other dogs, so why not make her your next family member today!  For more information, check out her webpage.

Okay feline fans, it’s my pleasure to introduce you to Little Bit- Last Hope’s Adult Cat of the Week!  Little Bit is a very handsome boy (mostly white with a splash of black) who was rescued from a college campus.   After being home fostered and socialized, he is now ready for his Forever home! Little Bit adores people- loves being petted and held. Little Bit is estimated to have been born in May 2014 and has all of his medicals completed. Hurry and head down to meet him today!  For more information, check out his webpage.

The next three pooches are all available through Sweetest Dog Rescue.  They are at the Animal Pantry, 620 Sunrise Highway, West Babylon every Saturday from 12 noon until 4.  You can also contact them on email.

Handsome Larry is a 2 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound.  Larry is sweet and gently, good with humans and even other dogs (not too much of a cat fan).  He is described as being one of the best snugglers known to man!  Larry is submissive and just too sweet to pass up.  Inquire about adopting Larry today!

Risley is the gorgeous 2 year old female shepherd/corgi mix.  Risley is a sweet girl who just loves her humans, can play a bit rough with other dogs, but also not so great with cats.  Risley has had 7 of the most beautiful puppies that have been adopted out, and now it's her turn to find a forever home of her own.  Won't you consider making this sweet girl your newest couch potato buddy?

OMG Chili so tiny and adorable!  Chili is a chocolate brown and white male Chihuahua, just one of the over 100 dogs removed from a hoarding case.  Chili loves humans and will get along with other dogs if they understand he's the "jefe" (boss).  He loves to talk and he's a real character.  But don’t take our word for it, contact Sweetest Dog Rescue to meet Chili today!

Thanks very much for reading, and please remember to always adopt, never shop!
