Going to nationals from Long Island are the ladies' 2.5 team, ladies' 3.0 and men's 3.0, all from Blue Point.

Denise Jordan has been named the new Executive Director of the USTA/Eastern Section.

Ms. Jordan has been with USTA/Eastern since 1996, and has served as senior manager in charge of USA Tennis 123 and our regional directors. Additional responsibilities included Community Development and Staff Training. She has been Eastern's acting Executive Director for the past two months.

In accepting the position, Ms. Jordan said, "I look forward to a tenure that will explore breaking new ground, providing a sense of synergy to our board and staff, and to the communities which we serve. Thank you for the opportunity!"

USPTA Professional Bob Litwin will be hosting Tennis Talk Radio on UsaNetwork.com during the 2000 United States Open. The show will air live from 10-11AM (EDT), weekdays from August 28 to September 1. The show debuted during this year's French Open as the first live audio stream tennis talk show. Listeners can interact with Litwin and his co-host Kirk Moritz, by emailing questions in a simple link directly from the website. Litwin, known as the Focus Coach, puts his unique spin on match analysis and picks for the matches of the day.

Additionally, interesting guests will be interviewed on a daily basis. During the French Open, guests included Paul Annacone, Tom Gullickson, Doug MacCurdy, and Dr. Jack Groppell. US OPEN SERVES UP FREE TENNIS

(WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., August 16, 2000) - The public is invited to attend, free-of-charge, the men's and women's qualifying competitions for the 2000 US Open, and the boys' and girls' singles finals.

Qualifying, which features some of the best professional tennis players in the world fighting for places in the main draw, takes place at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Flushing, N.Y., Aug. 22-26. The US Open will be held at the USTA National Tennis Center, Aug. 28 through Sept. 10.

US Open qualifying, consisting of 128-player men's and women's singles draws, determines the 16 men and 16 women who earn the final berths into the 128-player men's and women's main draws of the US Open Tennis Championships. In addition, 16 men's and women's doubles teams will vie for four places in the doubles draws. US Open qualifying offers a purse of $1.2 million.

The qualifying competition features players whose rankings did not earn them direct acceptance into the main draw of the US Open. In 1996, Anna Kournikova reached the round of 16 in the main draw as a 15-year-old qualifier. Among the players expected to participate this year are Mark Woodforde, owner of 12 Grand Slam doubles titles and playing in his final US Open; his doubles partner Todd Woodbridge; Iva Majoli, the 1997 French Open champion; Mirjana Lucic, a 1998 Wimbledon semifinalist; Ronald Agenor, the 35-year-old "Haitian Sensation" who was a 1989 French Open quarterfinalist; Harel Levy, the No. 1 Israeli player who reached the final of the Tennis Masters Series - Toronto two weeks ago; Alex O'Brien, a member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team and a 1999 US Open doubles champion and Richey Reneberg, a 1992 US Open doubles champion.
