Written by Kelly Tenny  |  12. August 2014

Modern life can be very stressful. It is chock full of busy schedules and unrelenting responsibilities. With so much on your plate it’s important to kick back every once in a while and spend some time relaxing and revitalizing.

August 15th is National Relaxation Day and what better excuse could you ask for than a holiday created to remind people to pencil in some personal time for rejuvenation. There are many health benefits to relaxation. Relaxation can reduce stress, increase blood flow, reduce muscle tension and physical pain, lower fatigue, and improve a person’s mood and concentration.

Long Island has plenty of perfect places to visit to reap a day of relaxation benefits. Here are a few suggestions on how to spend National Relaxation Day.

Soak Up Some Sun – Head to your favorite Long Island beach, find an area away from the hustle and bustle of beach goers, layout in the sun with a good book or just close your eyes and soak up the sun. Don’t forget to bring sun protection!

Plan A Spa Day – Long Island is home to many spas eager to show visitors a relaxing time. Schedule a massage or facial and let the relaxation begin.

Take A Wine Tour – Leave the kids at home for the day and get a group of friends, or family, together for a tour of Long Island wine country. The tours assure that you don’t have to worry about travel or drinking and driving. All you have to do is enjoy the ride and sip delicious wine to your heart’s content.

Go For A Swim – Don’t let not having a swimming pool of your own keep you from enjoying the water. Visit one of the many Long Island swimming pools that are open to the public. The cool water will have you feeling fresh and rejuvenated well before you go to grab your towel to dry off.

Take A Yoga Class – The art of yoga is one focused on clarity, relaxation, and finding your center. Why not transform your body and mind by trying out a yoga class on the Island. Take a few deep breaths and begin your transformation.
