August is the start of the dog days of summer. It is the hottest time of year and also the time of year where kids are starting to get ready for back to school. But there is still plenty of fun left in the summer to have in this last month of the summer.

Fairs and festivals are very enjoyable throughout the summer and August’s fairs will help round out the summer with the final taste of freshly cooked corn, funnel cake, and popcorn. Additionally, live music is also available throughout the month of August and these may be the last shows that will take place outside before the weather gets colder.

Also, it is back-to-school time, although Long Island kids are doing a collective groan about going back to school, it is still important to start preparing by collecting supplies and completing summer reading assignments.
