GREAT SOUTH BAY MUSIC FESTIVAL  “THE MUSIC LOVERS FESTIVAL”
2012 LINEUP IS THE MOST DIVERSE LINEUP YET

Patchogue, NYThe Great South Bay Music Festival - The Music Lovers Festival,  the largest “American Themed Music & Arts Festival” on Long Island returns for its sixth big year, and will again set up on the picturesque waterfront at Shorefront Park, in Patchogue Village.

The dates are Friday July 13, through Sunday, July 15th., and will feature over 50 performers in the rock, jam-band, folk, jazz, blues, country and funk genres, on four stages including two Main Stages, an “Emerging Artist Stage”, and a Children’s tent and stage.

The fest is well known for presenting a musically varied and eclectic lineup of headline and emerging “original” artists, and this year Promoter Jim Faith says it’s the most musically diverse year to date.  …
Friday kicks off with over 9 performances including headliner and rock legend Dave Mason w his band, plus Irish rockers Black 47,  then on to “Red Horse” a folk super-group consisting of legends John Gorka, Lucy Kaplansky & Eliza Gilkyson, plus local roots legend guitarist-singer-songwriter  Kerry Kearney.
Saturday is roots – jam day with over 18 performers, and headlining this year are jam favorites “MOE.”, plus Tea Leaf Green, legendary singer-songwriter Martin Sexton,  James Maddock, and New Orleans R&B funksters Brother Joscephus & the Love Revival Orchestra.

Sunday is Classic & Contemporary Rock and this year Great South Bay has answered the request for a high level  tribute by bringing back to Long Island, after a 4 year absence, the very popular “The Music of Led Zeppelin – A Rock Symphony”. “This is no local tribute” says Faith “this is a charted 27 piece symphony orchestra led by conductor and creator Brent Havens, backed and amplified by a full rock band, and the screaming vocals of Zebras Randy Jackson. This is the finest Zep touring rock show in the country”.

The two hour concert features 18 Zeppelin tunes, state of the art sound, and a cutting edge light show.
Also appearing on Sunday is Garland Jeffrey’s and fast rising Americana roots band “Ollabelle”, Amy Helm’s (daughter of Levon Helm) band.
As always, a healthy lineup of  local original favorites and emerging artists performing throughout the weekend including Streetlight Circus, Aeroplane Pageant, Woodfish, Lone Sharks, Tauk, Electrix, Miles to Dayton, Nancy Atlas, Shadow Eden, Jay Scott, Funkin A, Joe Bayer Band, and  many more.

Original is the key word, as 99% of the fest is dedicated to promoting and presenting great original music.
This year GSB is proud to add an “Emerging Artist” stage, showcasing our future stars.
School of Rock’s country-wide All-Star Band will also perform on Sunday eve, right before leaving on their US tour.

The Great South Bay Festival is also dedicated to “Excellence in Educational Children’s Entertainment”.
The “KIDZONE” Tent & Stage presents top level educational children’s performers, hands-on activities, arts & crafts, a traveling Pet Zoo, puppetry, and of course, our resident Pyrate camp.
An expanded “Arts exhibit and Installation” by Long Island Creative Vortex & Studio E will provide an art exhibit, sculptures, as well as “Live Art”. No less than 10 artists will paint live on 120 feet of canvass on the side of the Main Stage throughout the weekend. Children should also wear their painting clothes cause’ the arts group will also provide paints and brushes and 30’ of canvas for our little future artists. As always, children are free.

Shoppers and browsers will love Great South Bay’s huge arts & crafts market, and food court featuring a diverse selection of healthy & funky hot & cold fare & beverages. Additional Info if needed:

Veteran promoter and event organizer James Faith, (who is also the Chairman, and a founding board member of the LI Music Hall of Fame), and longtime friend and partner Joe Tesoriero created the Festival to offer Long Island “A serious roots- music and art festival, for true music lovers, for the whole family. One that features a diverse lineup of respected, top name original artists, serious emerging original artists, and a higher level of children’s entertainment, in a safe, and affordable environment”.

“Music Lovers” and “Affordable” are the key words, especially in 2012. Other festivals that offer this level of entertainment and number of artists start at triple the price of Great South Bay, and charge additionally for children and parking.
Jim & Joe are kind of like the little engine that could…without the resources that the large corporations have behind them, they have built the festival slowly and carefully, with a keen eye towards building a community of music lovers, and families..

Philanthropy: GSB is committed to our LI community and supporting three amazing charities:
Mather Hospital Breast Cancer Research:
The Annual “Stickey Finger Run”, one of the largest bike runs on LI,,  is always scheduled on the Sunday of the fest, and attracts upwards of a thousand bikes.
All proceeds go to Mather Hospitals Breast Cancer Research & Treatment, and all riders enter the festival free.

LI Cares: Each year, attendees bring non-perishable items to the festival for pickup and distribution by LI Cares to needy families. LI Cares also raises much needed funds at the festival to help feed over 300,000 people on our island that are at risk of going hungry.

LI Music Hall of Fame: As Chairman of the LIMHoF Jim has a special place in his heart for not only Long Islands rich music history, but the importance of nurturing our young artists and future Inductees.
All monies will go towards scholarships and the building of LI’s new music museum in Port Jefferson.

Past performers have included:  the Grateful Deads Mickey Hart, Hot Tuna, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, WAR,  Railroad Earth, Blue Oyster Cult, Eddie Money, Umphreys McGee, Foghat, 38 Special, Sonya Kitchell, Galactic, New RidersRitchie Havens, blues legends Savoy Brown & Sonny Landreth,  Tom Paxton, the subdudes, and gospel-blues queen Odetta in one of her final performances.
