Extreme sports and racing fans are sure to be excited when Red Bull Global Rallycross comes to Nassau Coliseum on July 19th and 20th. Global Rallycross (GRC) is a high-octane race between 2500 lbs small production-based cars that have been enhanced to reach 600 horsepower, accelerate from 0-60 mph in under two seconds, and withstand both collisions with other cars and drops from as high as 70 feet.

Close quarters will pit the cars practically door-to-door against each other as they race over dirt and asphalt and perform table-top jumps. Up to ten vehicles produced by Ford, Hyundai, Subaru, and Volkswagen will take to the track simultaneously.

GRC does not take lengthy breaks between the action, which means patrons will be on the edge of their seats for the whole show. When Volkswagen Rallycross NY begins on Saturday, July 19th the racing will kick off with Supercar qualifying to start the afternoon, followed by a swift transition to Lites qualifying. The Supercars and Lites will both compete over the next two hours to determine who will make it into Sunday’s semifinals and finals races. The last two rounds of Supercar racing will bookend the Lites finals on the afternoon on July 20th.

Volkswagen Rallycross NY is the fourth event of the 2014 Red Bull Global Rallycross season and the first of eight standalone events slated for the year. It will be headlined by two-time Red Bull GRC champion Tanner Faust, current GRC leader Scott Speed, and former Formula 1 star Nelson Piquet Jr.

GRC Vegas winner Ken Block will also be on the track, as will Supercars rookies Joni Wiman and Austin Dyne who have recently moved up from the Lites competition. Bucky Lasek, who has continuously medaled as a professional skateboarder during the Summer X Games over the past 15 years, will be looking to further cement his GRC credentials as he takes to the track as well.
