The weather may not be exactly what you’d hoped for this Independence Day but that by no means should put a stop to your celebratory plans! There are plenty of ways to stay inside and still enjoy the holiday festivities.

Watch fireworks around the country and across the globe go off on television as you relax in the comfort of a nice, dry home. Get everyone together to play some games and snack on some munchies. Keep the patriotic spirit alive with a themed red, white, and blue party. Make summer camp type crafts with the kids.

Don’t sit around and mope because you can’t go through with your original plans. Make new, revised plans! Here are some fun ways to spend your 4th of July away from the rain.

Host an Indoor Party: Decorate the house in a funny tropical theme. Just because it’s raining outside doesn’t mean you can’t surround yourself inside with inflatable palm trees and sip on piña coladas as if you were out on the beach. Make the party a red, white, and blue themed party and make sure everyone is decked out from head to toe in our flag colors.

Movie Marathon: Have people over to enjoy a 4th of July movie marathon! Pop in movies like 'Independence Day,' 'National Treasure,' and 'The Patriot'.

You can even make your own amazing stovetop popcorn to share with the group as you watch. Coat the bottom of a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan with 3 tbsp of oil, ½ tsp of salt, and ½ cup of popcorn kernels. Turn the stove on to medium heat and cover the pan, leaving it slightly open. Shake the pan a few times. Once the popping sounds like it’s coming to a halt take the pot off of the stove and move the popcorn into a big serving bowl. Drizzle on melted butter too for that authentic movie theater popcorn taste.

Board Games: Have a board game night! Bring out classics like Risk, Charades, and Trivial Pursuit. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone.

Kids Crafts: Get out the scissors, glue sticks, and of course red, white, and blue construction paper. Bond and celebrate the 4th of July by creating cute, patriotic crafts with the kids.

Make Food: It might be a bit too humid to go all out in the kitchen this 4th of July but you can opt to make some no bake desserts, that way you never even need to turn on the oven.
