It's something most people don't think about, the numbers on my house. Are they really worth a second look? On the surface it may not seem like it. The mailman finds your house every day and when you have guests they always make it to your door. The thing we don't consider is what if there is an emergency and it's a dark night. The last thing in the world we want is to have an ambulance or fire truck searching for a number they can't see and wasting valuable seconds.

Now there is a solution to this problem. The advances in solar cells, rechargeable batteries and LED light have all been combined into one great product that can literally save lives. A solar powered illuminating house number. It works automatically by charging during the day and glowing at night. No wires, no batteries to replace and no light bulbs to change. These lights can be seen from up to 200 feet away at night and work as a normal number would during the day.

It may seem like an exaggeration, but if you look at most Fire, Police and Rescue websites you'll find the same references, time and time again, on how important it is that your house number be visible from the road, even at night. In the cases where an elderly or disabled person lives in a home this can be even more important. Some municipalities have even passed laws stating that a house number must be clearly displayed and visible at night.

The lighted house numbers I came across are reasonably priced and very easy to install. They can be installed on the house, a fence or even your mailbox for maximum visibility. Having a sample unit in hand I was very impressed with the quality and the way the number looks at night. It charged up in a very short time and from what I understand has hundreds of back up hours on a charge. That means even during a cloudy week the unit will still light up in the evening.
