Children are invited to explore Live-brary.com For Kids at http://live-brary.com/kids -- the newly created one-stop digital branch available to public library cardholders in Suffolk County, NY and geared especially for children up to 10 years of age (fifth grade). The online branch highlights new items for borrowing, a kid-friendly Topics Guide with fun facts and resources, and music, movies and books to enjoy on computers, mobile devices, eReaders, and more.

The Suffolk Cooperative Library System (SCLS) - the resource collaborative of all 56 public libraries in Suffolk County, NY - unveiled the Live-brary.com For Kids on the first of this month. The site includes information in Spanish.

The site went live just in time for summer reading programs, summer school homework help and downloading books and music to take away to camp, said SCLS Director Kevin Verbesey. The branch is still evolving as we get reactions and recommendations from the kids.

Live tutoring help continues through the summer so students might review math, science and other school-related assignments with certified instructors. And with just a click, an online encyclopedia provides children with a valuable research tool and up-to-the minute data.

As with brick and mortar libraries, kids may roam the stacks (menu tabs), to find a selection of materials for school or recreational projects, including images and historical photographs. A new and popular feature is the Disney Online Collection of interactive eBooks featuring Disney stories and characters.

ABOUT Live-brary.com For Kids: In 2010, the local public libraries of Suffolk County came together to launch the digital branch, Live-brary.com, to provide the county's one million patrons a selection of free online resources including live homework help and downloadable eBooks, audio books, movies and music.
