LI's Adorable Adoptables is a weekly column by Allison Matos, a lifelong Long Island resident who has been advocating animal adoption since 2012. Allison's weekly posts highlight local animals in need of adoption, and cover general animal welfare topics as well.

If you’re literally looking for the apple of your eye, look no further.  Available at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is Apple!  Apple is a 4 1/2 year old gorgeous baby girl who first came to the shelter in September 2013. She was underweight, missing hair and had fly bites on her body, making it pretty evident that she spent most, if not all, of her life outside. Apple is a volunteer favorite, and desperately needs a home. Apple loves to play in the yard and chase balls, she's a really fast runner and knows how to have a good time. She has lots of energy, but she also loves a good snuggle, loves a cuddle bed, she gives hugs and she even thinks she's a lap dog!

Apple would prefer to be the only dog in her home because she seems to be a little inexperienced with other dogs. She has zero issues passing them on the street, and is even a frequent visitor of off-site adoption events, where she is friendly and sweet with everyone! Apple has been waiting way too long, and isn't so happy in her kennel. The volunteers would love nothing more than to see Apple go home with a loving owner. Please consider Apple today, or call the shelter at 516-785-5220 for more information .

Got a sweet tooth?  Right next door at Last Hope Animal Rescue is the sweetest cat of all- meet Cookie!  This poor girl was abandoned by her family during this harsh winter at an apartment complex when her family moved and left her outside to fend for herself.. Thankfully, someone reached out to Last Hope and they were able to get this girl to safety. Life has not been easy for the sweet 1 year old angel but the volunteers are hoping that someone looking for a calm lap cat who loves too look out the window comes in to adopt her and give her the loving home she has always deserved. Please visit this adorable girl today at Last Hope Adoption Center, located at 3300 Beltagh Ave, Wantagh, NY.

With a Nik Nak Paddy Wack give a dog a HOME…could anyone ask for a sweeter dog than Nik Nak? This female hound mix is approximately 1 year old weighing about 20 lbs and is a low rider (short legs).  Nik Nak is described as a sweet and loving gal who is not only adorable but also crate trained!  Won't you consider opening your heart and home to this sweet little lady?  For more information, contact the fabulous staff at Sweetest Dog Rescue.

Can’t adopt but want to help animals in need?  Love wine? If you answered yes to either of these questions, Last Hope Animal Rescue is having a charity wine tasting on July 10th, 2015 from 7-10pm at the Walt Whitman House, 246 Old Walt Whitman Road, West Hills, NY that can’t be missed!  $45 per person includes light supper, wine and dessert.  For more information, check out their website.

Thanks for reading and please remember to always adopt - never shop!
