Summer Bucket List 2017: Make This Summer Your Best One Yet with Tons of Local Fun Right Here on Long Island!

There’s nothing quite like summers on Long Island. From the scenic beaches lining the North and South shores, to the seasonal farmers markets and stands offering up fresh, locally grown foods, to bustling local parks with amenities ranging from playgrounds, to picnic areas, to hiking trails, there’s tons of fun to be had all throughout the Island. Don’t let this summer slip away without participating in as many interesting activities, exciting events and local amusements that you can!
 
Take a look at our Summer 2017 Bucket List for inspiration for your own, or just try to see how many of the activities on our bucket list that you can check off for this summer!
 
  • Go listen to a concert right on the water at the Jones Beach Amphitheater!
  • Take a stroll around one of Long Island’s great walk-around towns, like Port Jefferson or Greenport!
  • Surround yourself with flowers, trees and local wildlife at a garden or arboretum.
  • Rent a house out in Montauk and explore “The End” for a weekend!
  • On a bleak and rainy, try your hand at rolling a strike at a Long Island bowling alley.
  • Spend a night out on the town bar hopping on the Freeport Nautical Mile!
  • Cool off from the summer heat in a public indoor, or outdoor, swimming pool.
  • Check out some Long Island roadside oddities, like “The Big Duck” in Flanders!
  • Go out for a hike on The Long Island Greenbelt Trail that spans from the Great South Bay to the Long Island Sound.
  • Sip on locally made wine at one of the many picturesque North Fork wineries & vineyards!
  • If you’re looking for a laugh, get some friends together to go out to a comedy club.
  • Go with the family to pick your own fresh, seasonal fruit from a farm on the Island!

  • Learn something new about art, local history, science, and more at a museum on L.I.
  • The summer is only here for a few short months, get to the beach whenever you can!
  • Consume something cool by making your way over to a nearby ice cream parlor.
  • Browse local vendors, hope on a carnival ride and eat some tasty fried foods at a summer fair or festival!
  • Nothing beats New York pizza! Go grab a slice or a pie from one of the many pizza places on Long Island.
  • Play a round or two of putt-putt at a mini golfing place and see if you can sink a hole-in-one!
  • Watch in awe at a fireworks show in celebration of Independence Day on July 4th.
  • Buy local fare, from produce to baked goods, to artisan cheeses, at a farmers market!
  • Get behind the wheel and put the pedal to the metal at a go-karting course.
  • Enjoy the great outdoors and a night under the stars by going camping!
  • Explore the surrounding open waters by boarding a cruise, charter or sailboat.
  • Shop 'til you drop at one of the shopping malls, or outlet centers, on Long island!
  • Get a closer look at one of the various lighthouses on Long Island by giving them a visit.
  • Enjoy great films while spending time outside at an outdoor movie screening on the Island!
  • Pretend like it’s wintertime by lacing up your skates and hitting the ice at an ice skating rink.
  • Run around and shoot at your friends for fun while playing paintball!
