Do It Yourself Road Trip Emergency Kit
The road can be a dangerous place. We all know this, yet so many of us are unprepared for an emergency situation while on the highway.
There are many areas on the road where you just cannot depend on cell phone service. If you end up getting stuck in a dead zone, there’s no telling how far you might be from an area where you can call for help.
While trunk space may be limited during a long road trip, there are some essential items that you should never travel without.
Flashlight and extra batteries: Yes, you have that handy-dandy flashlight app on your phone. But what happens when your phone runs out of batteries?
Jumper cables: This is always a must-have in your car. Jumping your car can be an easy solution if your battery dies, all it takes is a fellow driver and less than five minutes.
Gloves, wool socks, boots and a blanket: This may be in the event of a worse-case scenario, but if you end up breaking down in the middle of a snowstorm, these item might just save you from hypothermia or even death.
Necessary fluids for your car: Another easy fix to a potential problem you might face on the road. Some fluids you can include in your kit are motor oil, brake fluid, a gallon of water, and antifreeze. A funnel and some rags are also useful.
Road flares: Be sure to warn passing cars that you’re stranded, and also draw attention to yourself in case you need help.

- First aid kit
- Fuses, make sure you have the right ones for your car.
- Tools: pliers, flat and Phillips-head screwdrivers, and an adjustable wrench.
- Fire extinguisher.
- Electrical and duct tape.
- WD-40.
- Knife.
- Bright cloth or emergency road sign to display in your window in case of trouble.
It is also important to be knowledgable about your engine. Make sure to keep your cell phone charged and - most importantly - drive safe!
