As you may of already heard. The Nassau county Board of Health is trying to pass some new regulations on tattooing and body piercing. This will make licensing for all tattoo parlors and each artist must be licensed. In order to acquire a license you must take a course at the Health Department on sterilization procedures, universal precautions and blood borne pathogens. This coarse will then be followed up by a written test, which you need to pass in order to receive your certification and legally perform tattoos and body piercing.
I am a shop owner in Suffolk County. Here these laws already exist. I just went down to the Health Department to renew my certification. They put an excellent course together to help keep us working in full respect of the regulations, and keep us updated on any new regulations. This is the Best thing that they could have done. I hope that Nassau County does come aboard and show better efforts into regulating this industry as well as Suffolk County does.
A Quote from John Seaton - the man in charge of all of the inspections on Suffolk county tattoo parlors " I would like to thank all of Suffolk County's tattoo parlors for doing such a wonderful job and following all the guidelines in the regulations we have developed for this industry. I must say that it is completely safe to get tattooed in any of Suffolk County's tattoo parlors, and I would never tell anyone not to get tattooed. Yes - It is just as safe as a doctor or dentist."
