Dear Long Islander,

Although we're well into April, there's a winter chill in the air still that we can't seem to quite shake yet, although the weekend should be clear and warming up, followed by a week's worth of April Showers. Thankfully it looks like LI is in for some warmer weather, and a wide assortment of fun events to go along with the change of season. This weekend has something for everyone - from Jazz Appreciation on the East End, to outdoor craft shows, and even adoption events where you can find a new furry friend. So get out there, and get ready for Spring, Long Island - it's headed our way!
It's Jazz Appreciation Month at The Suffolk Theater
Come Celebrate Jazz in Riverhead this Weekend!
Jazz is an American invention of the 20th Century. It’s sound is the “modern art” of music. Count Basie Orchestra ON MAIN STREET, A First for Riverhead! April 7th at 2PM. “The Swingiest Band in All the Land!” A LONG ISLAND PREMIERE! In his 80 year life span, William “Count” Basie so expanded and elevated the art form that his legacy is regarded as an “American Institution” by modern music’s connoisseurs around the world. Count Basie was called the affable “count” and his motions and musical conversations at the piano closely paralleled his approach to life itself. So one might predict he’d be elated to know that the orchestral institution he founded in 1936 is still thriving today. Join us at the Suffolk Theater, Sunday, April 7th, at 2:00PM. Tickets are $35.00.

Hot Off the Presses
New Spiderman Movie to be Filmed on LI, Thousands of Extras Needed
Hundreds Turned Out to See the Iconic KP Landmark Demolished
Sony Pictures’ Amazing Spider-Man was a hit last year when it was released, as is the standard with superhero films these days, the sequel, simply titled The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is currently shooting on Long Island. In a press release, Governor Cuomo promised that the shoot would be the biggest production shot in New York history. New York, notorious for having absurdly high shooting costs and fees, has recently begun doling out larger tax breaks than in previous years in an effort to draw more film shoots. The sequel will shoot at Grumman Studios in Bethpage, as well as Gold Coast Studios. The Grumman facility was used for certain sequences in last year’s smash-hit The Avengers, the primary draw being that a production’s crew can utilize underground facilities without having to worry about crafty onlookers hoping to snap a first glimpse of production aspects or actors in costume.
