Briarcliffe College will hold its 2011 Commencement for a graduating class of 670 students on Saturday May 21, 2011 with Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano the keynote speaker. He joins Briarcliffe College President George Santiago, Jr. Ph.D. in addressing the students and more than 3,000 in the audience of family, friends, and faculty.

The Commencement ceremonies will be held at the Suffolk Community College Sports/Convention Complex at 101 Crooked Hill Road in Brentwood, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Diplomas will be conferred to graduating seniors assembled from the College's Bethpage, Patchogue and Queens campus locations.

Briarcliffe welcomes back Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, said Dr. Santiago. He has a long association with the College as a former member of our board of trustees, a lifelong resident of Bethpage, and a businessman with an understanding of our career-focused education programs.

Ed Mangano won election as Nassau County Executive on a platform of cutting spending, freezing property taxes, repealing the home energy tax and fixing the county's broken property tax assessment system. He assumed the position in January 2010, bringing more than seven years of experience as a County Legislator for the 17th Legislative District. A graduate of Hofstra University and Hofstra School of Law, Mangano was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1988. He went on to a career in printing and publishing newspapers, as well as serving as counsel to Rivkin Radler, LLP for nine years. He and his wife, Linda, have two sons, Salvatore and Alexander.

Briarcliffe's focus is especially relevant in these challenging economic times when young people, transitioning students, and adults seek career opportunities or wish to enhance their current careers, said Mangano. I am honored to share this exciting moment with Briarcliffe College graduates and their families.

The 2011 Briarcliffe College Commencement will highlight excellence across all departments of the College, and graduation addresses given by Valedictorian Michael Drennan of Selden and Salutatorian Melissa A. Meyer of Babylon.
