AVOID AMUSEMENT PARK DANGERS

Written by children  |  16. March 2001

Amusement parks are one of the safest forms of recreation around. Less than 1/3000* of one percent of the 300+ million Americans visiting amusement parks each year, suffer ride-related injuries. The most common cause: FALLS. NO.....not from the rides....while running! When accidents do happen, 80% of the time it's a result of rider error, says Anthony Gentile, owner of Adventureland on Route 110 in Farmingdale. FOLLOW THIS ADVICE TO SAFEGUARD YOUR CHILD DURING YOUR NEXT VISIT TO AN AMUSEMENT PARK: * Provide adequate supervision: MAKE SURE THERE IS ONE ADULT TO TWO CHILDREN IN YOUR GROUP. (especially for younger children) * Designate a meeting spot, in case you get separated: TELL YOUR CHILD TO SEEK OUT A PARK EMPLOYEE IF HE/ SHE GETS LOST. *Remind your child to walk. * Read and follow posted restrictions for age, weight, and height , which vary with each attraction. * Instruct your child to use safety equipment, (seat belts, lap bar), to keep arms and legs inside rides at all times, and remain seated and buckled until the ride stops. *Make sure your child understands these rules. NOTE: If your child can't be counted on to following directions, don't let him get on a ride. Adventureland's fun-filled season begins on March 24th. For information call: 631-694-6868.
