LI's Adorable Adoptable Pets: Meet Darla and Petey

Written by Lyndsay McCabe  |  13. March 2014

This week, meet Darla and Petey, two best buds from Save-a-Pet Animal Rescue and Adoption Center whose soulful eyes tell a lot of their harsh upbringing.

Darla and Petey are two sweet young pit bull mixes who were rescued from a previous owner who did not care for them whatsoever.  The two were neglected, and were left outside all day and all night, never getting to know the comfort of living indoors as part of a family.  The gallery image shows the deplorable conditions that the two dogs lived in year-round, remaining outdoors in sub-zero temperatures.  When they were rescued, they were huddled together for warmth in the dark, and their water was frozen and brown.  Their owner only fed the dogs by throwing food out the window to their pen.

These two sweethearts love being indoors at the shelter, and they are now ready to have a family to show them what it is like to be cared for by loving owners.

Darla and Petey are spayed and neutered, up-to-date with all of their routine shots, and microchipped.
