Kings Park's 2014 St. Patrick's Day Parade Had Irish Eyes Smiling All Day

Written by Cait Russell  |  02. March 2014

This year, Kings Park got into the Spirit of Saint Patrick’s Day early with their annual parade, which took place on Saturday, March 1st, and needless to say, it was a blast! The town got lucky – Saturday was a beautiful, clear day, and although it was somewhat chilly, it was perfect parade weather. Locals lined the streets from start to finish – the parade began on Pulaski Road, continued down Main Street, and after turning on to Church Street, ended at William T. Rogers Middle School, and excited children and families decked out in their St. Patty’s Day best could be seen stretching for the full duration. As noon approached and the parade was getting ready to go, the anticipation in the air thickened, as parade goers anxiously awaited the sound of bagpipes.

There were many unique floats this year – local businesses and organizations gussied up their trucks and cars with banners and festive regalia – there was green & orange as far as the eye could see. Many of the neighboring towns had a great presence as well – numerous local fire departments, police departments, and organizations came out in force, many with their own bagpipe & drum marching bands! From the floats, gifts of green Mardi Gras Beads, Candy, and Holiday Trinkets were tossed for the children, and needless to say, Irish Eyes were smiling in Kings Park all day. This year’s Grand Marshall, Deacon John Trodden, lead the parade with pride, and the collective efforts of the town and its nearby neighbors made the parade a truly spectacular event.

After the parade had come to an end, locals took to the local eateries and VFW Hall to enjoy some corned beef and cabbage, and continue the celebration. Kings Park is a town that is bursting with pride, and that was no more evident than it was at this year's parade.
